Preparing for a photography session can be an exciting but overwhelming task. Whether with a professional photoshoot or just taking some shots with friends or family, there are a few things you can do to make sure everything runs peachy and you end up with some great shots while having a great time.

Choose your location and time carefully

The location and time of day can have a huge impact on the outcome of your photos. This is the bread and butter of your photo. Think about the style of photos you want to take and choose a location that fits that aesthetic. Also, consider the lighting during the time of day you plan to shoot. Early morning and late afternoon often have the most flattering light. I try to only shoot during golden hour. I work with my clients giving them a guide to help pick the location that fits them best.

Plan your outfits

Your clothing can greatly affect the overall look and feel of your photos. Coordinate your outfits to complement each other, but avoid being too matchy-matchy. Choose clothing that you feel comfortable and confident in, and make sure it fits well. The better you look and feel,  the better the pictures.

Communicate with your photographer

Before the session, make sure to discuss your goals and expectations with your photographer. Let them know what style of photos you're hoping to achieve, any specific shots you want, and any other details that are important to you. If you dont know or don’t care? That's okay! Letting your photographer know any small detail won’t  hurt.

Get plenty of rest

A good night's sleep can do wonders for your appearance in photos. Make sure to get plenty of rest the night before your session so you're feeling and looking your best.

Bring props or accessories

Consider bringing along any props or accessories that can add personality and interest to your photos. This could be anything from a favorite hat or scarf to a musical instrument or sports equipment. ( I LOVE LOVE LOVE HATS FOR WOMEN)

Feminine Prep

(for your sake and the photographers)

Do your photographer a favor, and so all self care maintenance 1-1.5 weeks before your session. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to fix chipped nail polish. Hair, finger nails, toe nails, eyebrows, lashes, you name it. This will make your life easier, as well as give you an extra boost of confidence. Not to mention who doesn't love self care.

Relax and have fun

Remember that photography sessions are meant to be fun and enjoyable! Try to relax and enjoy the experience, and don't be afraid to show off your personality and have a good time in front of the camera. I always tell my clients, embrace the awkward and have fun.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your photography session is a success and that you end up with some fantastic photos that you'll cherish for years to come.

Extra tip!

Practice posing

Practice some poses or expressions in front of a mirror before your session. This can help you feel more comfortable and confident during the shoot. It's normal to have jitters about posing so why not have fun with it. No matter what your photographer will be there during the session to guide you to look your best.
